And the other is not a Predator gadget, but just the way that Naru, wields her axe, she invents something very cool for that Tomahawk. Here are this weeks new Comic/TPB Releases provided by Comic Collector Live’s member padreglcc. "One is his shield, that you see briefly. Speaking with, Dan Trachtenberg stated, "I teased a while ago that I took inspiration from the latest God of War video game, and those two things are in the trailer," he stated. Kratos can recall his axe in the game much like Thor can summon Mjolnir. She affixes a rope to the axe so that she can recall the weapon with a yank of her wrist. However, she finds that recovering her axe expends precious time on a hunt. Naru uses an axe that she lobs at her prey with precision. The "God of War" inspiration doesn't stop there, however. One of his tools of the trade is a slick shield that emerges from a gauntlet. Now in ancient Scandinavia, he combats the monstrosities of Norse mythology. If that sounds familiar then you are likely a fan of the 2018 action-adventure game " God of War." The game follows Kratos, a demigod remnant of the Greek pantheon of deities. The Predator is sporting a new shield that unfolds from its gauntlet. Dillon isn't quick on the draw like Naru, so the Predator does deliver a killing blast to Mac's dome using his targeting system. Unfortunately for Mac, the Predator sees him also. Mac believes he's in a prime hiding spot and quietly tells Dillon that he sees the creature in the trees ahead and is ready to strike. This scene is a direct homage to the moment in the original predator film that plays out the same way between Dillon ( Carl Weathers) and Mac ( Bill Duke). But of course, the Predator runs poor Itsee down in the field and guts him. She buys Itsee's a few more seconds of life by causing the Predator to miss his target. She then sees the Predator's targeting reticle on Itsee's forehead realizing that the Predator sees him too. Naru heads into a field of tall grass and Itsee grabs her from his hiding spot and motions for her to be quiet while silently telling her that he has eyes on the creature. One such moment occurs when Naru and Itsee (Harlan Blayne Kytwayhat) are fleeing the carnage being unleashed by the Predator just after their hunting party first meets the creature in all of its terrifying glory. Let's review some of the finer details that often reference the "Predator" legacy. Regardless of the change in scenery, there are a lot of fun details within the film that many might not pick up on with a first-time viewing. Director Dan Trachtenberg's take on the famous movie monster adds a new layer to the established lore with its historic setting. The stakes are always high as it's a game of hunt or be hunted. Like the " Predator" films of the past, it's up to the primary protagonists to figure out the alien's weaknesses and patterns. Once the fearsome predator strikes, it does so mercilessly. Naru knows that another hunter is among them posing an imminent threat, but her comrades don't seem to listen. Incidentally, she is the first person to sense that something isn't right about the forested area they are hunting in just beyond their settlement. She wants to show the best of them that she has the chops to hunt for the tribe. The film focuses on Naru ( Amber Midthunder), a young Comanche woman who is hell-bent on hunting with the big boys despite their insulting attitudes towards her. The supplement coenzyme Q10, also known as CoQ10, is made from the active antioxidant ubiquinol. “But it certainly is good to have fish in the diet.” Coenzyme Q10 and other antioxidants But most of the recent studies in healthy, normal people show no huge benefit,” Sorrentino said. “There have been many studies through the years suggesting there may be some benefit. Omega-3 fatty acids can reduce blood clotting, inflammation, relax blood vessels and possibly help stabilize the heart’s rhythm. The omega-3 fatty acids in fish are what make this supplement so popular. Sorrentino warns patients about expensive over-the-counter supplements that purportedly improve the heart’s overall function, but probably have no benefit at all. Debunking other heart mythsĬough CPR isn't the only internet rumor that consumers should approach with caution. If you or someone else is properly trained, start CPR and, if available, use an automatic external defibrillator (AED). So what should you do if you’re having a cardiac event or you’re with someone else who is? The best initial response is to call 911. Simply coughing will not always correct an irregular chaotic rhythm, and it cannot prevent the patient from going into cardiac arrest. “But most patients that go into cardiac arrest are going to go into a more chaotic rhythm.”Ĭhaotic rhythms are what prove the method false. “Some rhythms could lead to cardiac arrest, and I think that’s why people thought, ‘Oh, if the cough will prevent the cardiac rhythm maybe it will help the cardiac arrest,’” Sorrentino said. But Sorrentino notes that most heart rhythms are more complex than a single cough can handle. In this instance, it seems like the method works successfully. “And when we tell the patient to cough really hard that could terminate the rhythm.” “We would occasionally see that in the intensive care unit or in a cardiac catheterization lab someone would go into a ventricular arrhythmia or supraventricular arrhythmia ,” Sorrentino said. Where did the idea of cough CPR come from?Īccording to Sorrentino, the idea was initially supported by anecdotes and case reports. When these two things occur, the subtle change in blood flow and the electrical system can terminate or break the arrhythmia. When the system is stimulated it has an impact on the heart’s electrical system. That change affects blood flow to the heart and also interacts with the nervous system, especially the vagus nervous system, which links the heart, lungs and abdomen to the brain. Sorrentino notes that when a person coughs there is a change in intrathoracic pressure, which is the pressure surrounding the lungs. The answer is a bit tricky and doesn’t have a precise answer. How does coughing stop a heart attack or fix an arrhythmia? Internet myths have resurrected the idea that coughing can stop a heart attack in its tracks or fix an irregular heart rhythm.ĭoes “cough CPR” really work? We talked with University of Chicago Medicine cardiologist and professor of medicine Matthew Sorrentino, MD, about where this particular myth comes from, and what he thinks about other rumors about heart health. “I knew for a fact I was behind (on the scorecards), Saaiman said. Saaiman however, emerged with urgency in the third round, and finished the American with a flurry of knees and punches. Males are noted for their high-spirited and acrobatic courtship displays, in particular a series of dives and barrel rolls in multiple loops that serve as a means of advertising territory occupancy. The larger females have rich brown upperparts while adult males are mostly light to medium gray, sometimes appearing almost ghostly silvery-white. Commonly encountered in large expanses of open country, its main hunting technique is through use of a distinctive buoyant, gliding flight low over the ground that relies heavily on visual as well as auditory cues to detect prey. The Northern harrier is a slender, medium-sized hawk characterized by a noticeably long tail, bold white rump patch, and owl-like face. It was removed from the federal ESA in Oregon in 2007 and removed from the Oregon state threatened species list in 2012. Recovery took decades and involved agencies, organizations, politicians, landowners, and the American public. The Bald eagle was brought back from the brink of extinction when the federal government banned the use of DDT in 1972 and listed the eagle under the federal Endangered Species Act in 1978. The Bald eagle breeds in 32 of 36 Oregon counties and is found throughout the state during non-breeding season. Sexes have similar plumages, but females are larger than males, and the sex of individuals in breeding pairs can usually be determined by size when they perch close together. Six age-related plumages have been recognized adult plumage is acquired at four-and-a-half to five years of age. Large size, wingspan of six-and-a-half to eight feet, and the contrast of white head and tail, and yellow eyes, beak, and leg, to dark brown body and wings make the adult Bald eagle one of our most distinctive raptors. It is one of the most studied North American birds. The Bald eagle is one of eight species of sea-eagle worldwide, and the only sea-eagle found throughout North America. The highest concentration of known nest locations is in the Medford, Jackson County area. It is probably a permanent resident in the Willamette, Umpqua, Rogue, Illinois, and Applegate valleys and along the coast. Young-of-the-year are easily distinguished by a rusty band across the breast, rusty markings on the head, and a thin gray band near the end of the tail. Above, they are light gray with black shoulder patches. Dark crescents on the underwing can be seen when a bird is flying or hovering. The tail is entirely white, as are the head and the underparts. White-tailed kites in Oregon often roost communally in winter, but they disperse in early spring and are more difficult to find during the breeding season.īy day, they are conspicuous as they hover over rural fields searching for prey, in part because of their pale appearance. The Peregrine falcon is an Oregon Conservation Strategy Species in the Coast Range and Northern Basin and Range ecoregions.Īs the winter day turns to dusk, White-tailed kites drop into their roosts and Short-eared owls rise to take their place on the local hunting grounds. It is a regular breeder and uncommon migrant. In Oregon, Peregrines occur as resident and migratory populations. Peregrines are medium-sized raptors, and share characteristics with all falcons: bill conspicuously toothed and notched, presence of a nasal cone, and pointed wings for swift flight. It has, for perhaps 4,000 years, been used by falconers because of its skill in capturing game birds in tandem hunts with humans. They are one of Oregon's boldest raptors, and have been observed usurping active Golden eagle nest sites, stealing fish from Ospreys and ground squirrels from adult Bald eagles who stray into their territory. They are described as the fastest animal on the planet, and have been recorded reaching speeds in excess of 240 miles an hour in dives after prey. Peregrine falcons are among the most charismatic and noted of the world's birds. The American kestrel breeds statewide in open terrain from sea level to the alpine zone in the mountains. These birds soar with their long and pointed wings flat, and regularly hover over open and partly open country with scattered trees, including cultivated lands and occasionally suburban areas. Females are slightly larger than males and have reddish-brown backs and upper wing coverts that are barred with dark brown. Juvenile males are similar to adult males but have heavily streaked breasts. The tail has a wide black subterminal band. Adult males have rufous backs and tails with blue-grey upper wing coverts. It has two considerably different plumages: adult male and female and juvenile males differ somewhat from adult males until post-juvenile mold in fall. Formerly known in American literature as the Sparrow hawk, this is the smallest (dove-sized) and most familiar and abundant member of the family Falconidae in North America and one of the easiest raptors to observe. S19 S9 AND S16 Limiters: English-Research Articleġ. Therefore, the aim of this review is to examine and summarise the extent, range and nature of research activity on nurses’ subjective experience and preferences around shift patterns. This review focusses only on nurses because the experience of shift work is specific to the occupation and the context specific. Nursing staff form the largest group in the health workforce, and comprehending their experience and preferences around shift patterns is key to effectively improve nursing working conditions, enhance nurses’ job satisfaction and increase quality of care. Studies where nurses’ perspectives are directly obtained (rather than inferred by the researcher) could shed further light on the contradictions arising from the quantitative body of evidence. Yet, insights from nurses’ perspective are key to better understand mechanisms of preference and choice around shift patterns. The purpose of such quantitative studies is generally not to capture nurses’ perspectives. In these studies, adverse experiences are indirectly inferred from (for example) reported associations between shift patterns and burnout. The evidence on nurses’ subjective experience and preferences around shift patterns has not been summarised, as quantitative studies reporting associations dominate the field. However, the mechanisms explaining such preferences, how nurses experience these shift patterns, and how these shift patterns interact with other aspects of their life remains unclear. Preference for long shifts is also attributed to improved work-life balance, higher number of days off and opportunities for greater continuity of care. ĭespite such adverse outcomes, some literature suggest certain nurses prefer working long shifts, as evidenced by their higher job and schedule satisfaction, as well as their lower emotional exhaustion level. Nurses working long shifts are also more likely to experience burnout and report intention to leave in comparison to their counterparts. Working long shifts is also associated with nurses reporting reduced educational opportunities, fewer opportunities to discuss patient care, increased delayed or missed care and higher (pneumonia) mortality rates in comparison to shorter shifts. Despite a number of claims that a two-shift system is more efficient, there is no evidence of productivity gain when working long shifts and job dissatisfaction is higher among nurses working long shifts. While a three-shift pattern with two 8-hour day shifts and a night shift remains common, long shifts of 12 hours or more as part of a two-shift system have become standard in many countries including Ireland, Poland, the USA and increasingly in the UK. These factors can in turn jeopardise the quality of care. In the same vein, working as part of a rotating schedule is associated with increased levels of acute fatigue, errors and higher risks of alcohol consumption. Working permanent night shifts is associated with higher long-term sickness absence rates in comparison to day-shifts only. Shift work schedules can also have unintended consequences depending on whether they are rotating or permanent. įor instance, shift work may require nurses to work overnight causing adverse health effects, such as increased sleepiness at the end of the shift or disturbed sleep. How shift patterns are organised play a key role in factors influencing nurses’ wellbeing and performance, as well as patient outcomes and health systems’ productivity. Notwithstanding such regulations, shift work can be organised in a variety of ways, in terms of shift length, overtime, weekly hours, rotating and/or permanent schedules. Such directives limits the maximum number of weekly hours or regulate the frequency of work breaks. Several directives and regulations influence how shift work is organised, including the European Working Time Directive of 2003 and the US Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938. Shift work is an established feature of working life for many hospital nurses, who work to provide 24-hour healthcare. Insomnia suffers have reduced work productivity, and higher rates of absenteeism, accidents, and hospitalization, impaired memory function, complaints of daytime fatigue, and lower quality of life ( 3, 9). Researchers propose that insomnia associated with suffering COVID-19 appears to persist over time ( 8). A systematic review including 98 studies with 193,889 Chinese participants suggested that 39.1% presented insomnia during the COVID-19 pandemic and insomnia symptoms did not improve despite control of the disease ( 8). The COVID-19 pandemic is likely to have made insomnia more widespread. Up to one in five people suffer from insomnia or trouble sleeping based on data from the USA ( 5), Nordic countries ( 6) and South Korea ( 7). Insomnia affects a considerable proportion of the general population globally as either a primary or a secondary comorbid condition ( 4). It is predominantly characterized by subjective perceptions of difficulty in initiating and/or maintaining sleep or experiencing non-refreshing and/or non-restorative sleep, often accompanied by reduced daytime performance and cognitive dysfunction ( 1, 3). Insomnia remains the most prevalent sleep complaint and is a major public health concern ( 1, 2). Systematic review registration:, identifier: CRD42022369155. Allowing the engagement of a range of interdisciplinary stakeholders in future updates of CPGs is also warranted. More well-designed studies to provide reliable clinical evidence are therefore urgently needed. The only consensus was that four phytotherapeutics including valerian, chamomile, kava, and aromatherapy were not recommended for insomnia management because of risk profile and/or limited benefits.Ĭonclusions: Existing guidelines are generally limited in providing clear, evidence-informed recommendations for the use of CAM therapies for insomnia management due to a lack of high-quality evidence and multidisciplinary consultation in CPG development. Logically explained graded recommendations supporting the CAM use in the treatment and/or care of insomnia were scarce, with bibliotherapy, Tai Chi, Yoga, and auriculotherapy positively recommended based on little and weak evidence. Recommendations for these modalities were mostly unclear, unambiguous, uncertain, or conflicting. Twenty-two CAM modalities were implicated, involving nutritional or natural products, physical CAM, psychological CAM, homeopathy, aromatherapy, and mindful movements. The reporting rate of eligible CPGs ranged from 42.9 to 97.1%. Results: Seventeen eligible GCPs were included, and 14 were judged to be of moderate to high methodological and reporting quality. The methodological and reporting quality of each included guideline was appraised using the AGREE II instrument and RIGHT statement, respectively. The NCCIH website and six websites of international guideline developing institutions were also retrieved. Methods: Formally published CPGs incorporating CAM recommendations for insomnia management were searched for in seven databases from their inception to January 2023. The quality of the eligible guidelines was appraised to assess the credibility of these recommendations. This systematic review aimed to identify and summarize the CAM recommendations associated with insomnia treatment and care from existing comprehensive clinical practice guidelines (CPGs).
